Sleepytroll supports infant care at Oslo University Hospital

At Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, the hum of machines and beeps from monitors fill the pediatric intensive care unit. Among the life-saving technology and skilled healthcare professionals, a Norwegian invention is quietly making a difference: the Sleepytroll Baby Rocker.

It all started when some parents brought their own Sleepytrolls to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The nursing staff noticed that the babies relaxed faster, settled more easily, and the gentle rocking provided comfort during long nights when parents are recommended to get some sleep.

Ingeborg Brevik, Intensive Care Nurse at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), explains:

“At the PICU, we care for the sickest children in the country, many of them newborns and infants. We see that most of these little ones, when they’re not in an induced coma, benefit from being rocked to sleep. It can be very time-consuming when we also have medications and other treatments to manage. Some parents have brought Sleepytroll with them, and we’ve seen that it’s a fantastic aid, especially at night when it’s recommended that the parents sleep in a real bed. Since rest is very important for them to cope in such a stressful situation.”

After seeing the positive results first hand, Sleepytroll decided to donate several units to the department. Today, they are used daily by the dedicated team at Rikshospitalet to bring calm an comfort to some of the tiniest and most vulnerable patients.

Sleepytroll’s soothing rocking technology has become a trusted tool in the intensive care routine. By gently rocking babies in their strollers and cribs at the hospital, it recreates the familiar motion they once felt in the womb. This calming motion reduces stress, promotes rest, and supports the babies’ development during a critical time.

Medical staff and parents alike have noticed the difference. Sleepytroll provides a reliable, hands-free way to comfort babies, giving nurses more time to focus on essential medical care. For parents, it’s reassuring to know their little ones are being soothed even when they can’t be by their side around the clock.

We’re proud to be part of such meaningful work, helping tiny fighters get the gentle care they deserve,” says Isabelle Eken, Marketing Manager at Sleepytroll.
