Biography

Hi, I'm Anne. I'm a mom of three and the COO of Sleepytroll, and I write about baby sleep, soothing, and the messy, wonderful newborn months the way I wish someone had explained them to me when I was the one awake at 3 a.m.

My road to three kids took every route there is. My oldest son arrived after IVF. My second came as a complete surprise when his big brother was only eight months old, which left us with one frozen embryo we assumed we would never use. We were happy with our two boys. But I never quite stopped thinking about that little egg waiting on ice. Years later we decided to transfer it, figuring that whatever happened, happened, and that embryo became my daughter. Three kids, three completely
different beginnings.

My births were just as different from one another. My first was a 21-hour labor that started with a stressful, last-minute switch to an unfamiliar hospital because the one I had called was full. My second took three hours. My third took just 21 minutes, calm enough that I caught her myself, on my knees, breathing through it and trusting what my body already knew how to do. Going through it three times taught me how much our bodies and our babies are capable of when we stop fighting
them.

That is really what this whole blog is built on. All three of my babies settled best in motion, and learning to work with that instead of against it changed everything for us. So much of what newborns do that feels alarming, like needing to be held, fed, and rocked constantly, is not a problem to fix. It is biology doing exactly what it is supposed to do. My goal is to make tired parents feel a little less alone, and a little less like they are doing it wrong.

I came to all of this from a marketing and business background rather than a clinical one, and I am always honest about that. I did spend a year studying psychology early on, which is probably where my fascination with why people, and tiny new humans, behave the way they do first started. But what I really bring is real, lived experience, a lot of reading, and a deep respect for the science of safe sleep. When something needs a doctor's answer, I say so.
